Intangibles… What Doesn’t Show Up Counts!
In baseball, the box score summarizes the game. It contains the numbers that can be quantified.
It’s a marvelous device that provides a snapshot accounting of the game in a one inch by two inch vertical box..
A box score doesn’t give you a feel of the game.
It doesn’t explain how the game was played.
It can’t describe intangibles that affected the game.
Winning Plays Often Don’t Show Up in the Box Score!
Intangibles are the “little things” that win games, but don’t show up in the box score. Usually, they are not quantifiable; they are qualitative.
Numbers don’t lie, but they aren’t the whole story. It’s like this in every game we play.
Intangibles are the “immeasurables” that often decide the outcome. Sacrificing your at bat to move a runner ahead a base doesn’t pad your personal statistics, but it does help your team win.
Teammates appreciate intangibles. They know the value of the little things.
People who bring intangibles to any game are rarely without work. Often, they are highly paid.
What intangibles do you bring to the game?
How do they contribute to the team?
What other intangibles can you add?
In a world where our eyes can only see what’s visible, it’s often the invisible that makes the difference. Sometimes, it’s what doesn’t happen that has the biggest influence on life.
Other times, it’s the little things that matter most.
Intangibles!
